 Suppose that we want to enhance the processor used for Web serving. The new processor is 10 times faster on computation in the Web serving application than the original processor. Assuming that the original processor is busy with computation 45% of the time and is waiting for I/O 55% of the time, what is the overall speedup gained by incorporating the enhancement?

这是一个amdahl's law 的题。 speed up = exe time old/exe time new = 1/(0.55+0.45/10)=1.68

原始时间为100
由于IO等待时间不变
现在时间为45/10+55=59.5
所以速度提升为(100-59.5)/100=40.5%

1/(4.5%+55%)= 1.68
the overall speedup gained is 68%

new processor time needed:0.55+0.045=0.595
seedup: 40.5%

Consider that the new processor could only improve computation, so with new processor,  computation time will be deduced to 4.5 time unit, so it shold be  (100 - 4.5 - 55) / 100, improved by 40.5%
